Slade delivers urgent chemotherapy on New Year’s Eve

Slade Writers / 17 Jan, 2025

When every second counts, our teams at Slade Health and Slade Pharmacy work together to ensure patients receive essential treatment.

On New Year’s Eve, our Mount Kuring-gai teams responded to an urgent request from Sydney Children’s Hospital, ensuring young patients received their essential chemotherapy without delay.

The request for Blinatumomab CADD required immediate coordination across our production team, logistic network, and pharmacy partners, Slade Pharmacy. Despite the tight deadline and Sydney’s NYE traffic, our teams worked efficiently to deliver the treatment.

Efficient coordination and expertise

Our Slade Health team played a key role in preparing the specialised chemotherapy within a short timeframe. The request, which typically takes up to two days to fulfil, was completed in a matter of hours. Led by Production Manager Jessica, trained compounders Ronald, Zyrra, Melissa, and Paul, worked diligently in the compounding suites to prepare the medication safely and accurately.

“Coordinating trained compounders and equipment on such short notice required serious thought and care. It’s a testament to our team’s dedication and expertise that we delivered this treatment so quickly while maintaining our high-quality standards, Jessica said.

Collaboration for patient care

Slade Pharmacy ensured the request was processed efficiently, reinforcing the vital link between our hospital partners and compounding operations. Pharmacy Operations Manager, Stephanie Brown highlighted the teamwork involved in meeting this order.

“It’s the collaboration between our production technicians, pharmacists, and logistics teams that allows us to respond so efficiently. We take pride in delivering the best possible care for patients, even under challenging circumstances,” Stephanie said.

Commitment to quality Commitment to quality

Production Supervisor, Pegah Khalili emphasised the importance of their work.

“Knowing that young patients were waiting for this treatment pushed us to act fast and ensure we delivered the highest quality product. At the end of the day, patient well-being always comes first,” Pegah said.

Slade Health is committed to ensuring patients receive the critical treatments they need when they need them.
