Slade Writers / 28 Nov, 2024

As Slade Health Woodville marks its first anniversary, we take a moment to reflect on the achievements and contributions of this world-class facility over the past year.

Since opening its doors, the 65 strong Woodville team has prepared and dispatched more than 650 compounded products daily, totalling 53,000 essential medications and 8,000 deliveries to support hospitals and patients across South Australia.

In just 12 months, the Slade Health Woodville team has enhanced access to high-quality compounded pharmaceuticals and specialised medications, supporting private hospital partners and public health, and ultimately improving patient outcomes throughout the region.

Commitment to quality and excellenceCommitment to quality and excellence

Woodville is our fifth licensed facility across Australia and New Zealand and follows a strong track record of achieving rigorous compliance with industry standards, underscoring its commitment to safety, precision, and quality. The facility’s dedication to excellence is supported by a skilled team of pharmacists and production technicians, assistants, delivery technicians and support staff who work tirelessly to ensure that every compounded medication meets strict guidelines and patient-specific requirements.

Improving national standards and empowering local healthcare

One of the primary goals of our Woodville facility has been to support local healthcare providers in South Australia with high-quality compounding services that enhance the level of patient care. The facility has forged strong partnerships with hospitals, oncology clinics, and specialist providers, ensuring the local healthcare network can trust Slade to deliver timely, safe, and reliable medications.

Officially opened by Federal Health Minister and Member for Hindmarsh SA, Hon Mark Butler MP and Minister for Health and Wellbeing and Member for Kaurna SA, Chris Picton MP, our Woodville facility continues to support the South Australian government’s Australia Cancer Plan, contributing to increased access to cancer medicines, particularly in rural and remote regions.

Slade Health Founder and Icon Group Global Director of Pharmacy and Compounding, David Slade said the team has reduced the need to rely on interstate facilities.

“The ability to produce specialised medications locally has played a critical role in enhancing the efficiency and responsiveness of South Australia’s healthcare system,” said David.

“In just one year, we’ve greatly reduced reliance on interstate facilities and minimised lead times for life-saving therapies, ensuring hospital partners and patients receive the treatments they need without unnecessary delays.

“The impact we’re making to communities is testament to our commitment to improving access to high-quality products and making a positive impact in the lives of patients everywhere.”

Investing in the future of global health

With nearly 60 years’ experience in hospital pharmacy and compounding, Slade Health produces over 1.2 million infusions annually to more than 200 hospital partners around Australia and New Zealand.

This excellence in production and supply of specialist medication has recently been extended by Icon’s acquisition of United Kingdom’s Pharmaxo Group who provide specialist pharmaceutical products and clinical homecare to communities in the UK. Slade and Pharmaxo’s combined experience will improve quality of care and ensure more timely access to specialised medications.
